CARROLL LEWIS (DODGSON CHARLES LUTWIDGE)

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson ("Lewis Carroll")
(1832 - 1898)

Mathematician and writer of books for children, son of a clergyman in Daresbury, Cheshire, was educated at Rugby and Oxford. After taking orders he was appointed lecturer on mathematics, and he published several valuable treatises on this subject. His fame rests, however, on his books for children, full of ingenuity, simplicity, and delightful humour; among them, the best-known are: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and its sequel, Through the Looking-glass, are the best.
