Dort hinter schwarzer Feuerstelle, flimmert ein Feuerschein; über frostige Felder geh ich, und alles ruft mich heim. Als wäre alles erstorben, so still ist das Dorf im Karst, sie sitzen am Feuer, dem roten, ich säße auch gern dabei. So säß' ich am Feuer gern, das Gesicht in den Händen; schweigend; still, alles still hinter dem Fenster, nur des Feuers Prasseln zu hören. ...
