PETALS ON THE PORCH I see An old gray, worn, barrel Turned upside down on the porch. A pot of fuchsia flowers sits upon it Just perched there, looking lovely. Some petals have dropped onto the floor And are scattered in a circle around the barrel. I'm told the plant is called "Impatience". A poem was written about me by my mother When I was only four years old. It began: "Janet - Impatient". I instantly make a connection with these flowers. But, as I sit here on this delightful porch So many years after that poem was written I can only appreciate and revel In this enchanting scene. Times change People change Porches stay the same. Petals will always fall to the floor And when autumn comes The cool winds will blow and they'll fly away Only to return next year as PETALS ON THE PORCH.
